Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Trauma can interrupt and derail people’s lives. Traumatic events might include a physical assault or rape, a terrible injury or car wreck, major losses and injuries due to a natural disaster, or life-threatening events experienced repeatedly in your work (e.g., as a first responder or military work). Often these events can continue to echo in your life. Memories of trauma can intrude and haunt you as if they happened moments ago. This can lead to chronic anxiety, depression, feelings of numbness, irritability, and avoidance of anything that might remind you of that experience.
